Welcome to SunRay Literacy Charity. I am Dr. Jelina Haines, and for more than two decades, my life’s purpose has been guided by a simple, powerful belief: when you give a child the tools to learn, play, and dream, you transform an entire community.
My journey began in 2013 in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Standing amid the devastation in Barangay Benolho, I saw incredible resilience in the eyes of local children, children who wanted nothing more than to go back to school, hold a book, and feel safe again. That moment birthed SunRay Literacy Charity in 2014.
What started as an urgent response to disaster has grown into a 12-year movement of hope and empowerment. Between 2014 and 2026, together with our partners, we have touched the lives of over 1,700 children and families through educational support, health and well-being programs, youth sports mentorship with our CSG Kapteens Basketball Team, and direct child sponsorships.
As a researcher, visual artist, and founder of SunRay Wearable Art, I believe creativity and compassion must go hand in hand. That is why 20% of all sales from SunRay Wearable Art directly fund our charity operations, turning cultural storytelling and art into real-world opportunities for young minds.
Every child deserves a light to guide their path, but we cannot keep this light burning alone.
