SunRay Newsletter — July 2026

A Message from Dr Jelina Haines

July has been a month of deep creativity, cultural connection, and urgent community work. Across SunRay Literacy Charity, SunRay Wearable Art, and our collaboration projects, we continue to support children, families, and Elders through art, story, and shared purpose.

Ponawi Yarning: Healing Through Creative Gathering

Our Ponawi Yarning sessions with Ngarrindjeri Elders continue to offer gentle spaces for weaving, feather‑flower artmaking, and shared healing. These gatherings support Elders and families experiencing grief, helping ease loneliness through culture, connection, and creativity.

Collaboration Spotlight: Aunty Ellen & Jelina

This month we celebrate the long‑standing partnership between Aunty Ellen Trevorrow and Dr Jelina Haines. Their sculptural woven artworks honour Ngarrindjeri tradition while embracing contemporary fibre art. Each piece reflects unity, cultural knowledge, and shared dedication, a collaboration that continues to grow in strength and purpose.

JamFactory Icon 2025 — Exhibition Update

Preparations for the 2025 JamFactory Icon exhibition are underway. The showcase will honour Aunty Ellen’s weaving journey, from traditional baskets and fish traps to large sculptural works and wearable art. This exhibition will deepen public appreciation of Ngarrindjeri culture and highlight her extraordinary contribution to contemporary fibre art.

Urgent Appeal: Philippines Literacy Support

Our sponsored children in the Philippines need immediate assistance. Funds raised this month will go directly toward learning materials, food support, and wellbeing resources. Your contribution through image downloads or direct donations which makes a real difference.

Conscious Making Workshops

Our new workshop series, Conscious Making, invites participants to learn sustainable techniques that transform fibre into purpose. These sessions blend creativity, circular design, and cultural respect, empowering makers to create with intention.

Thank You

Your support keeps SunRay’s mission alive, from cultural arts collaborations to urgent literacy work overseas. July has shown us once again that community, creativity, and compassion can change lives.
